Working on making our house our home...

We have been working on the house to make it ours!  Here are a few of the projects!

We needed a new coffee table desperately!
(the 70's style formica table that my parents used when I was born....needed to go!)
Kim found a website with plans and we started making our table!

The plans tell you all the cuts you need

 our "workshop"

starting to look like a table!

 trim

Look later at the finished product!
Kim and I found we are a great team in many things...
Kim read the instructions and I put it together, I sanded, She stained, I polyurethaned.

Watch for more projects in our future!

We are working inside and out.... here are some of the things we have done this fall
Adirondack chairs out front...I put them together (with kim reading the instructions!) and we stained them, Kim made weatherproof pillow for them

fall decorations ... I wasn't too sure about the bird!

Our front door - with the wreath Kim made - she is my crafty lady!

Outside our front windows...the neighbors loved what we did - they told us they had to copy!

Back inside the house...
earlier you saw that I ripped down the paneling in the living room
Here is the room, right after the painters finished
this is now our new favorite room!

The wet bar, mirrors and wall paper down!

Looking in from the front door

still have that wonderful atrium!
(if you have suggestions of what to do with that space...please let us know!)

We turned the dining room into a sitting room

the finished room and finished coffee table

We are enjoying our time working on our home.... we hope to do more in the future!
(have to get the house ready for when kids come....
don't get too excited.....nothing to report!)

Our new home...

One day we went up to Richardson to help Kim's parents move her grandma out of her house.... little did we know that we would be agreeing to purchase a home in the future!!

We moved in April, Grandma was so gracious not to make us close on the new home until we sold our other one....during that time - we have done some things to the house....

scraped the ceilings
paint
now the paneling in the living room is going

the wet bar - after all the wallpaper gone - mirrors to go next

Had some previous termite damage under the paneling.  Just got the paper -
easy fix for the texture guys!

The window is to the atrium in the middle of the house .... that will go next but not this time.... have to save up some money to open the kitchen, dining room, living room!

Looking at the front door.  Someday we want to push out the front door -there is an existing overhang outside - and make a new foyer.  We want to get rid of the current foyer and make part of the living room.

Front door, wet bar, current dining room - sitting room someday!

Fireplace is huge! we are going to keep it for now - give it a good cleaning and then someday update it!

Looking from the front door to the back yard

Mirrors are off....look at the awesome wallpaper that once graced this house!

Mirrors gone - holes being patched

day 1 tape and bedding done - we have a great guy... at one time today there were 5 guys working on the room!

Termite damage repaired - they primed it, floated it, then it will be textured and then painted

Cooper not to sure about all of this!!  He misses his evening run around the house.  With all the tarps down - we are keeping him in our bedroom - his claws tear up the tarps!! - He has learned to jump out our bedroom window to go outside!  Only one time he turned around to come back in as I was closing the window... he now has a small bald spot and scrape on the top of his head... hope the hair will grow back!!

Summer Flew by....

This summer went by so fast...we had hopes and dreams to get a ton of stuff done....well lets be honest... my job took over!  we had a ton of fun - most of the summer revolved around kids, youth and trips...

Munger Place Church, Senior High Mission Trip
Galveston, Texas

Getting ready to go to the beach

along with cooking....Kim can work with the best of them

One of Drew's dreams was to have a wife that enjoyed missions as much as he does....God provides!

We worked hard....and then had a great deep sea fishing excursion, Mike (Drew's brother-in-law from Houston) joined us for the day!

Mission Trip #2
Munger Place Church  Junior High Youth Mission Trip
Fort Worth, Texas

Rita came and joined us on this trip (she wouldn't stay with us even though it was her church!)

Drew at the Trinity River Clean Up

Again, in Youth ministry you have to work hard...then play.  We decided since there were no showers at the church we were staying (Kim and our friend Kristin went over to Rita's to shower) So we decided to have a 20ft x 100ft slip-and-slide -- baby shampoo gets JH kids so much cleaner!!

We had a great summer!!  Watch for more pics of our new house....we are working on it ourselves!

Summer

I cannot express the immense excitement that I have for the next three months! I have not had a summer off since early high school- either going to school or working. I know it is not normal in the working world to have three months off in the middle of the year, but it is a much needed gift that I have been given!

This year has been a lot to handle- getting married, both Drew and I starting new jobs, moving, starting a business, etc. Most of the things you aren't "supposed to do" during your first year of marriage, we managed to fit in. This year has been so busy, but amazingly blessed! The best part is I have a sweet husband to share it with! So much to learn about living with and loving another person in marriage and all of these experiences have made our love grow and grow.

I have BIG plans for the months to come and maybe I will actually have time to blog about them!

six. more. days.  I can do this!

Not that exciting

Okay, so I have been claiming over and over to my family that we do not need to update our blog because I have accepted the fact that we are not that exciting. I am not ashamed of that. Rather, I feel blessed to be coasting right now. Sure, we have a lot going on, but all in all we have a great life.

We found out today that a friend was put on hospice care at home and is living out his final days saying goodbye to his amazing family- his wife and 2 sons. How lucky we are to not be dealing with a tragedy? I pray that I can remember that in the sweet, boring moments at home watching tv, making dinner, working out*, getting up early when I don't want to, etc. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to do those fun everyday things.

So, even though we don't have any beautiful children (yet) to post pictures of in big bows or sweet button-down shirts, aren't taking any trips around the world, and aren't finding a cure for cancer, we have a great life! We each contribute in our own ways- to the things God has entrusted to us. I have a husband who loves me and a sweet puppy dog... who loves his daddy more. Life is good!

* Side note- Although this is in the "plan" everyday, it is a minor miracle when we actually have time to do it. We started P90X recently and LOVE it! It kicks our butts, but, truthfully, they need to be kicked! There is a guy on the video that is in amazing shape and he has a prosthetic leg. How cheap is that!?! You just can't quit when the guy with one leg is doing it!

Family Time...

We love spending time with family!  Between the 2 of us we have 8 nieces and nephews!  Here we are with three of the 4 Hall children!
